The Government of Assam launched the Orunodoi Scheme on 2nd October 2020 to provide monthly financial assistance to economically weaker families across Assam. Under this Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) initiative, eligible families receive ₹1,250 per month, directly credited to the bank account of the nominated woman of the household.

The scheme was announced in the 2020–21 Budget by Himanta Biswa Sarma (then Finance Minister, now Chief Minister of Assam).

🎯 Objective of the Scheme

The main aim of the Orunodoi Scheme is to reduce financial stress among poor families by helping them meet essential medical and nutritional needs. The scheme prioritizes women as beneficiaries, recognizing them as primary caregivers of the family.

The amount is credited on the 10th of every month through DBT.


✅ Eligibility Criteria

✔ Inclusion Criteria

Applicants must:

  1. Be a permanent resident of Assam

  2. Currently reside in Assam

  3. Meet at least one of the following conditions:

    • Annual household income below ₹2 lakh

    • Family member suffering from Cerebral Palsy, Thalassemia, Hemophilia, Leprosy, Autism Spectrum Disorder, or is a dwarf

    • Existing beneficiary of:

      • Deen Dayal Divyangjan Pension Scheme

      • Indira Miri Universal Widow Pension Scheme


⭐ Priority Criteria

If applications exceed the quota, preference is given to:

  • Widows, divorced, separated or unmarried women above 45 years

  • Households with specially-abled members

  • Destitute families or those living on alms

  • Homeless families or without pucca houses

  • Families with no earning adult (16–59 years)

  • Female-headed households without adult male members

  • Victims of trafficking or rape (recorded cases)


❌ Exclusion Criteria

Applicants will NOT be eligible if the household has:

  • Current or former MLA/MP

  • Government employee (serving or retired)

  • Income tax payer

  • Professionals like doctor, engineer, lawyer, CA, architect, contractor

  • More than 15 bighas agricultural land

  • Specified residential/commercial land holdings

  • Four-wheeler vehicle (including tractor)

  • Air conditioner

📋 Selection Process

  1. Preliminary Selection
    Conducted at Gaon Panchayat (GP), VCDC, or ULB level.

  2. Compilation at LAC Level
    Applications compiled and forwarded to District Level Monitoring Committee (DLMC).

  3. Final Approval
    DLMC prioritizes and finalizes beneficiaries based on eligibility and priority criteria.

Bajali, Baksa, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Cachar, Charaideo, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Dima Hasao, Goalpara, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Hojai, Jorhat, Kamrup, Kamrup Metro, Karbi Anglong, Karimganj, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Biswanath, Sonitpur, South Salmara Mancachar, Tamulpur, Tinsukia, Udalguri, West Karbi Anglong.


📝 How to Apply for Orunodoi Scheme?

The application process is offline only.

Step-by-Step Process:

  1. Collect the application form from your Gaon Panchayat Office.

  2. Fill out the form carefully.

  3. Attach required documents:

    • Aadhaar Card

    • Voter ID

    • PAN Card

    • Bank Passbook

  4. Submit the form to the Gaon Panchayat office.

  5. Orunodoi Sahayaks assist in filling the Detailed Application Form (DAF).

  6. Selected beneficiaries must sign a self-affidavit confirming eligibility.


🔔 Important Note

Only one woman per eligible household can receive the benefit. The scheme operates strictly under eligibility and verification guidelines.
